Outdoor Winter Family Session in Utah – Tips you need to know!

Snowy Winter Family Photo Sessions

This winter in Utah has been absolutely crazy.  We have had so much snow that as of today April 25, 2023 we are getting rain in the valleys and snow in the mountains, still.  It’s a good thing that I’m a winter/snow girl. I love the snow. And I especially love how beautiful, clean, crisp and white the snow makes everything after a storm.  Not many people are eager to have family pictures in the snow but man, they are so fabulous! You should really consider it. I do have tips for your winter family session outdoors.

TIP 1: Hidden Layers – wear base layers, leggings, etc. that will help keep you warm but won’t be bulky.

Tip 2: Visible layers – Sweaters, Wraps, Coats, Vests etc. These items not only help keep you warm they can add texture and variety to the color scheme of the picture.

Tip 3: Bright pops of color – Because of all the white snow you can wear beautiful bright colors. Just make sure they still coordinate with each other.

Tip 4: Accessories – boot socks, hats, gloves, scarves, etc. again will add texture and personality to the pictures.

Really you don’t need to be afraid of snowy outdoor pictures. Make sure you communicate to your photographer that it needs to be a fast and efficient session so that people don’t get too cold, especially little kids and babies who you don’t want outside very long at all. Winter family sessions in the snow can be amazing and so beautiful, one of my favorites.
