Fall Family Photos at Jolley’s Ranch

There is something extra special about fall family photos at Jolley’s Ranch in Utah. The colors show up strong, air feels crisp, and everything slows down just enough to soak it all in. Outdoor family photos in Utah are something special.
This October 2025 family session at Jolley’s Ranch in Hobble Creek Canyon, Utah was one I will never forget.
This mom found me online after realizing it had been years since their last family photos and it was long over due. I get it, life moves fast. Kids grow fast. Getting everyone together for updated family pictures is a process. And honestly? They picked the perfect location and time of year for great weather and lighting.
Why Jolley’s Ranch Is Perfect for Fall Family Photos in Utah
Jolley’s Ranch sits tucked inside Hobble Creek Canyon near Springville, Utah and it is absolutely beautiful in the fall. Golden leaves, open grassy fields, and mountain views in every direction.
When I arrived, the road farther up the canyon was closed. A police officer blocked traffic. Luckily, that closure happened right at the turn-in for Jolley’s Ranch. I was so relieved we could still go into the parking lot.
A Calm Session… Until It Wasn’t
The session was going smoothly. I was running through my family posing workflow. I captured full family portraits, sibling photos, parents together, and parents with kids.
I was almost done with the session, maybe fifteen minutes left. Then I noticed a police officer walking around to other groups in the park. Interesting. . .
When he reached us, he let us know they were evacuating the area. A wildfire had started just one to two miles up the canyon. It must have happen just before our session started and that is why the road was closed further up.
Thank goodness we had started the session when we did and that this family was amazing and going through the posing like rockstars. I asked for one more photo. Just one. He smiled and said that was fine.
We grabbed the final shot quickly. Then we packed up and headed out safely.
Not a session I will forget anytime soon, I’ve never been evacuated from an area during a session before.
Why Sessions Like This Matter So Much
This session reminded me why I love being a Utah family photographer. Life feels unpredictable sometime.
This family showed up fully present. They trusted me and my process. And now they have images that tell their story — even with a little wildfire drama mixed in.
Here is what mom said about the session.
“Christy did a phenomenal job with our family photos. I happened to find her on Google, and she had great reviews. She was so quick to respond to my photo request, and I felt that she did everything she could to get to know our family better before taking photos. She arrived early, which I was very grateful for since we had to be evacuated due to a canyon fire. She worked extra hard to ensure we had all the photos we wanted and needed.”
